 Harrington on Holdem

Dan Harrington writes the best poker books in my opinion.

This guy really understands the game. One thing I can say about Dan is he
knows when to make moves at pots. He knows how to survive in tournaments.

Some basic concepts I learned from him as that you have to play more hands as you get shorter stacked. If you have a big stack you can afford to sit back and wait for hands. The blinds will eventually come around and eat away your stack if you don't raise in later positions with decent hands. Winning the blinds becomes critical to maintaining the short stack.

What I like so much about Dan is that he can play the big stack and the short stack with much skill. Dan recommends that the reader tighten his/her play in the beginning levels and loosen up as the blinds get higher.

And these things are just the basics. I found the hand scenarios to be of some help also.
